The San Antonio
House Registry

300 Houses that express San Antonio’s climate, cultures, and materials through architecture.

The San Antonio House emerged from the union of the Spanish Colonial Mission Barrack and the native Jacal.  The taught, well-constructed building that worked well in a European latitude, required an addition of sheds, porches and iron bars to address the extreme South Texas climate & predator concerns.  The intersection of Indian, Spanish, French, Mexican, English and American cultures served to create a unique Texas Architecture.
