Wright House

104 E Elsmere place

Contractor L.T. Wright, associated with the construction of many of San Antonio’s major buildings, retained George Willis to design his home on a prominent corner south of downtown. Due to Willis’ four years as a draftsman in the studio of Frank Lloyd Wright, the house reflects Wright’s midwestern residential style. The low roof and wide eaves of the Prairie School are supported by tile-block walls finished with stucco. Decorative painter Fred Donecker added a folk art touch to the interior with stenciling and murals depicting local scenes, accenting typical Craftsman-era interior woodwork. The house and decorative interior were restored by De Lara-Almond in the 1980s for the firm’s offices.
