The Winter House is a more informal and congenial work than Ford, Powell & Carson’s better-known work around the corner, the Marshall Steves House. The large size of the site permits a rambling plan of one-story units framing an entrance courtyard. The vistas from the house are oriented away from the street with the exception of the rooftop terrace, clearly identified by the trellis.
